Unfolding Light

Coloured lines of light gather into a column, unfold at its base and trace free forms across the ground. The work brings sculptural presence together with an open drawing in space.

The work emerges from the interplay between a clearly defined form and a freely drawn line. A cylindrical wire basket provides the supporting structure. LED lines wind around it, crossing and overlapping to create a dense weave of colour and light.

At the base, the vertical form opens out: the lines of light leave the body of the column and extend across the ground in loops and arcs. Between the gathered form and the freely unfolding lines, a spatial drawing takes shape. Its overall dimensions can respond to each setting.

In daylight, the wire grid and pale LED tubes remain visible as a material structure. In darkness, the construction recedes; the coloured lines shape the perception of the work and cast light into its surroundings. The work makes the relationship between line, volume and space directly tangible.
